Rwanda's President appoints new prime minister

KIGALI, July.23 (TOA)  - Rwandan  President Paul Kagame  has appointed Anastase Murekezi as the country’s new prime minister to replace Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, a university professor from the ruling Rwandan patriotic front (FPR) who has been prime minister since October 2011.

An agronomist, Murekezi, 62,  who was before his appointment  the Ministry  Public Service and Labour is also  member of the is member of the opposition Social Democratic Patry (PSD, French acronym) while his predecessor was from the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

The appointment comes days after the outgoing Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi  was  summoned by the Rwandan parliament to give explanations on the issue of settlement sites that have affected by the expropriation exercise in Kigali city and its outskirts. Read More....
