YOU ARE LEAVING A LEGACY: Adieu to Ambassador Gennet ZewideTake a look at how this friendly and ever cheerful career diplomat has made an ineffaceable impression among the diplomatic corps and with people of India, as well as ingratiated herself to her fellow colleague, and to the many in the larger Indian community who had the honor of meeting and interacting with her.   On 14th December, 2015, The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), one of the leading chambers of India, hosted a farewell party for Her Excellency Ms. Gennet Zewide, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Dean of African Missions.  

With friends, family and colleagues from near and far present to wish her well, Ms. Gennet Zewide said, she came to India knowing almost no one, but is leaving with friends and relationships she will always value.   The Ambassador emphasized the pleasant relations between the two economies viz. India & Africa have developed and their cooperation has borne bountiful fruit in various fields. In her remarks, she specified that India and Africa are imperative partners, and they have relished close cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education, ICT, healthcare, etc.  

The Ambassador also cherished the role played by Indian companies working in Ethiopia. She concluded by articulating her heart felt gratitude for the care, acceptance and the reception that Indians have always shown both at the individual and official levels.   “I am going to miss all the action, but even more, I will miss the people here and those who aren’t here, and the great friendships and relationships we formed,” she said. “Thanks to all of you for contributing to our success.”  

Mr. Ambuj Chaturvedi, Chairman, India-Africa Business Promotion Council, ASSOCHAM & Executive Director, Overseas Infrastructure Alliance spoke highly of the contributions by Ambassador Gennet during her tenure, including firming high-level exchanges, simplifying economic cooperation and trade, and deepening cultural and people-to-people exchanges. “Excellency, you have always been a source of inspiration for me, you are my mentor,” he added.  

Mr. D B Sabharwall, Executive Director, Allanasons Pvt. Ltd. after underscoring the instrumental role Ambassador Gennet had played in the transformation of the continent during her tenure in India, emphasized that her commitment to her country and to Africa, and devotion to diplomatic service, was indeed both incomparable and very well known.   Mr. K K Kapila, Chairman and Managing Director, Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt.
