Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on his maiden visit to Ghana

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on his maiden visit to GhanaIndian President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Ghana on Sunday 12-06-2016 on a three-day visit and for the first time. The second and last leg of this state visit is Ivory Coast and Namibia respectively. President Pranab was received by the Vice President of Ghana, Kwesi Bekoe.

A Ghanaian girl presented a bouquet to the Indian President upon his arrival.

Addressing the delegates at the state dinner organized by the Ghanaian President in the honor of his counterpart at Flagstaff House Banquet Hall, President Mahama said he deeply value the relations existing between the two countries since the time of their founding fathers, India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru ad Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He further acknowledged and appreciated the assistance received by the Government of India for India-Ghana Kofi Annan Center for Excellence in IT.

President Pranab in his address congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for being appointed by the UNSG as Co-Chair of eminent persons group on SDGs. Ghana was very well able to sustain strong democratic institutions, enjoying stable, peaceful and secure environment.

In the next two days, India and Ghana will hold delegation-level talks here with the objective of intensifying bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties. Read more....
